A Vancouver charity, RainCity Housing, is converting city benches into pop-up shelters for homeless people. And by giving homeless people in this rainy city some dry coverage and a place to rest, RainCity is putting London’s anti-homeless spikes to shame.

Imagine who you would be today if your formal education had ended after middle school. Imagine being a grown woman knowing only what you learned through eighth grade. Now multiply that by about 62 million and you’ll have some idea of the magnitude of this outrage.

It’s Saturday afternoon at the edge of the world.
White pages lift in the wind and fall.
Dust threads, cut loose from the heart, float up and fall.
Something’s off-key in my mind.
Whatever it is, it bothers me all the time.

Got a Girl Crush On: The photographs Iranian woman by Shadi Ghadirian

Photographer Shadi Ghadirian was born in 1974 in Tehran, where she lives and works today. Ghadirian studied photography at Azad University, where she encountered some of the earliest works in the history of Iranian photography. These archival images sparked her own work, a series of photographs that capture the private worlds of Iranian women today, caught between eras, between tradition and modernity.

Produced by The Kitchen Sisters with Lacy Roberts and Patty Fung.

Absolutely check out The Hidden World of Girls on NPR (hosted by the queen of crushes, Tina Fey). It’s everything we ever hope this blog to be in audio-form.

I hope this sinks in your hearts.

I’m so fucking tired of this shit

I just want it to stop.

this needs to end

In 1992, LAPD beat Rodney King and the city rioted in protest. That was the response just because he was beaten.

Today, black people are getting murdered by police regularly and we do nothing. Peaceful protests are the high road and honorable, but will accomplish nothing. The police state has caused us to be so terrified of cops that the rest of us would rather save our own skins than revolt against the corruption and police brutality.
